IED Milano - Furniture design - Summer Course 2009

Some pics from the first workshop.
We were working on temporary privacy solutions on an open space office.
We came up with a "Privacy Ring", that while not in use serves as lighting. This ring can be used at different heights.
The idea is that at different levels you'll have different light-colors indicating how much privacy you need.
This is the real size cardboard model.

What a visionary! 50 years ago Maddalena De Padova, then an Italian young women took a trip to Denmark and began the retailing of Scandinavian furniture in Italy.
Her taste influenced deeply the Italian taste, when she introduced the clean, light lines of the Nordic designers to Italy.
Today e De Padova is an institution in Italian design, after they began collaborating with different designers such as Vico Magistretti, Achille Castiglioni and Patricia Urquiola, and producing their one furniture and objects.
Here are some examples from their showroom

Last Thursday we went to this hidden shop, Spazio 900.
As they say about themselves, it is truly "a point of reference for lovers of modern and vintage Italian and international design from 50's to 80's".
With two showrooms, "Le Cose del 900" and "Spazio 900", both holding amazing pieces.
Definitely worth the visit.

IED Milano - Furniture design - Summer Course 2009

Tuesday, 1st of July
Very interesting day. Had the best lecture ever on history of design with an Italian journalist, Diletta Toniolo.
Going back to the presedents of design.. all the way to the Romans and ending with an amazing piece of ballet form 1927 (!) from Bauhaus students (Oscar Schlemmer).
Overall a great class. Glad we have 3 more to go.
